Before we start – This is not a review for the Canon 10-18 mm f/4.5-5.6 IS STM lens. There are plenty of sites out there with lots of technical stuffs, reviews, ratings, comparisons etc.
This post is about sharing some experiences and photographs clicked using this lens and how this relatively inexpensive piece of equipment provided a new perspective to the photographs.
So buckle up for some wide angle action 🙂
For quite a long time, a wide angle lens was something I was badly missing in my bag. Each time I would go through the tight spaced North Kolkata lanes and by-lanes or the narrow lanes of Kumartuli, I wished I could get a more wider view, capture a little more of the action around.
Before this lens was released, for a Canon crop sensor camera you either had to go for the expensive canon 10-22 mm f/3.5-4.5 usm lens or something more affordable like a third party Tokina, Sigma or a Tamron.
But with the Canon 10-18 mm f/4.5-5.6 IS STM, life becomes a bit easier – specially at those tightly spaced regions (and for a smaller hole in your pocket) 🙂

Next stop – the ever busy and narrow by-lanes of Kumartuli – Birthplace of the Gods and Goddesses.

Back to Kolkata, how can this wide angle adventure be complete with out the Ghats of Kolkata. For some it is a place of leisure, for some a place of worship, for some a place to earn their livelihood while for some it is a place of being with oneself … the story varies and trust me each one is equally interesting !!!
But it’s not always tight spaces or narrow streets, where this lens is useful. Landscapes, Cloudscapes and any thing that calls for a whole lot of action to be squeezed in to a 2- dimensional object named the Frame.
